Ad-blocking – a vicious cycle

Ads. The word probably draws your mind towards ‘Hot singles in your area’ or ‘Free movies – no viruses’, but for me, it’s a reminder of how great the internet is. With all its faults aside, the internet is all too often unappreciated these days – the wealth of information available anytime, anywhere (provided you have internet access) for free, with a few hidden costs. Chiefly, online advertisements. They come in many forms: from little boxes in the sidebar of a page to obnoxious full-screen pop-ups and yet, they’re still almost universally hated.

Forest: Productivity Redefined?

Due to the coronavirus quarantine, many of us are finding that we have to work from home. However, with Netflix at our fingertips, this can make it hard to get anything done.

The solution? Forest. Forest is a productivity app where you set a timer for a specific amount of time, and in this period you are not allowed to use certain apps, or your phone at all, should you choose to set it up in that way.

How to enable ‘Dark Mode’ on ANY Android app

Many Android users seem to be left in the dark- get it, dark? No? OK- with ‘true’ dark mode on apps like YouTube and Twitter, while iOS users seem to be getting all the good stuff. Dark mode is not only great for browsing at night, but also for saving battery life. You see, on OLED devices, when black is displayed on the screen, the LED is switched off, conserving battery life and giving deeper blacks.
